AAAA is a domain address record, that is basically the IPv6 address of the server where the domain name is hosted. The IPv6 system was intended to replace the existing IPv4 system in which every IP address consists of 4 sets of decimal digits between 1 to 255 e.g. 5.168.208.143. In contrast, an IPv6 address has eight sets of 4 hexadecimal digits - from 0 to 9 and from A to F. The main reason for this transformation is the substantially smaller amount of unique IPs that the current system supports as well as the rapid increase of units which are connected to the Internet. A good example of an IPv6 address is 2101:1f34:32e2:2415:1365:4f2b:2553:1345. If you want to forward a domain name to a machine which uses such an address, you will have to set up an AAAA record for it, and not the widely used A record, which is an IPv4 address. Both records provide the exact same function, but different notations are used, to differentiate the two sorts of addresses.
AAAA Records in Cloud Hosting
If you are using a service through a third-party service provider and you've got to set up an AAAA record to forward a domain or a subdomain to their system, you are going to be able to do that with only a couple of clicks in the Hepsia CP, provided with our cloud hosting solutions. After you log in, you need to navigate to the DNS Records section where you will find all the records for any domain or subdomain hosted in the account. Creating a new record is as basic as clicking on a button, choosing the type from a drop-down options menu, which will be AAAA in this case, and then typing the value, or the actual IPv6 address, within a text box. As an additional option you are able to modify the TTL value (Time To Live), that specifies how long the record is active after you change it or delete it in the future. The new AAAA record is going to be live in just an hour and will propagate around the world two or three hours later, so the hostname for which you have created it will start pointing to the new web server.
AAAA Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
Setting up a new AAAA record is incredibly easy with our user-friendly Hepsia hosting Control Panel, so if you host a domain address inside a semi-dedicated server account from our company and you want such a record either for it or for a subdomain that you have set up under it, you will be able to create it in a few rather simple steps and without any hassle. Hepsia has a section devoted to the DNS records of your domains where you can find all existing records or set up new ones with a couple of mouse clicks. All it takes to accomplish this is to choose the domain/subdomain that you'd like to edit, pick AAAA for the type from a drop-down menu and enter the actual record i.e. the IPv6 address the other company has given you. Within an hour after you save the change, the newly created record is going to propagate globally and your domain name will start pointing to the third-party server. If they need it, you can even edit the TTL value, which shows the time this record is going to be active with its existing value before a new one kicks in if you make any modifications in the future.
