An Operating System is the software which interacts with the hardware of a PC and functions as the intermediary between the installed applications and the hardware, which includes peripherals such as a printer, a computer mouse or a keyboard. When you run an app, it sends requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the interaction is done via a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). A lot like a personal computer, web hosting servers also have an Operating System that functions as a host for all the software installed on them, including script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, and so on. A virtual machine can be generated on a physical one, so it is possible to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast to the physical server host Operating System.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
The dedicated server plans that we offer come with three different Operating Systems to select from. They are all Linux distributions - Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian, and not only do they have no license charges, but they’re also regarded as the most stable and secure OSs. We supply three different ones because each one of them is backed by a separate community. The packages which you can add on your web server are different and this may matter if you need to install some piece of software with particular requirements regarding the hosting environment. In this light, the internet hosting Control Panel that you can select for the dedicated server is also determined by the Operating System that you'll choose. You can select any of the three Operating Systems during the order process, but if necessary, we can always install the server once again with a different one upon your request. As an optional service that you could add to the package at any moment, we can update the OS regularly in order to keep it as risk-free as possible.
