A password-protected directory or area is a folder that can be accessed when a username and a password are entered, so no unauthorized individuals could see its content. This function could be used for the primary folder of a certain site or just for a specific subfolder depending on your preferences. As an illustration, when you are building a new site and you do not want people to see it before it is completely ready, you need to restrict the access to it completely, and if you need only some people to be able to access particular files, you'll be able to password-protect only a certain folder, while the rest of the Internet site can be seen by anyone. In any case, a “403 Forbidden” error page will appear in the event that the login details the visitor enters are not accurate. Even a direct link to a file will not work so long as any folder above it is password-protected.
Password Protected Directories in Cloud Hosting
Creating a password-protected area shall take no more than a few mouse clicks and a few seconds if you host your websites inside a cloud hosting account with us. You will not need to do anything complex - you'll need to pick a domain/subdomain, to choose which folder under it should be secured, and then to type in the login name and password which will be used to access that folder. If a number of people need their own login details, there won't be a problem to make several different usernames with access to the same folder. All protected folders will appear with a padlock icon within the File Manager section, so you'll always know where this option is enabled. If you would like to disable the protection feature for any folder, you can deactivate it from the very same section of the Control Panel where you have enabled it.
Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you'll be able to protect any content that you have uploaded via our protection tool. Its interface is as basic and intuitive as that of the Hepsia Control Panel it's a part of, so you will not need to type in any code at any time. You'll simply need to choose one of the domains/subdomains which you have in the hosting account and to determine which folder has to be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. After that you can input the username and the password, that'll be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you will be good to go. The protection will be enabled right away, so anyone that attempts to access the newly secured folder will have to type in the right login info. In case a number of people should be able to open precisely the same content, you can create a separate username for each of them.
